Clicking on View Larger Map above will give you the approximate route, directions and distances based on the following itenary:
This itenary was sent to David Valentine and is being posted here for information purposes only. Should you wish to participate on this ride please contact David at David.Valentine@gov.bc.ca
Day 1: August 5th, sees us leaving Abbotsford in the morning. We'll meet Mike and Shelley somewhere around Sedro Woolley; then carry on to Spokane. Winthrop & Grand Coulee Dam are nice places we can stop off. There's a KOA (campground) just on the eastern side of Spokane. Spokane KOA.
Day 2: Down I-90 through Idaho and into Montana where there is no motorcycle Helmet Law! If we don't miss the Hwy 359 turnoff (like I did last year!) we can turn south at Cardwell (Hwy 287) till we arrive in West Yellowstone Montana. Last year I stayed at the Grizzly RV and Camp Ground right in the town site. I would recommend it again because it has a shower, laundry, and is walking distance from the main street.
Day 3: Last year I made the mistake of not allowing myself enough time to enjoy all the sights in Yellowstone Park. West Yellowstone to Greybull is only 4 hours away. This gives us lots of time to take in the sights. There is another KOA in Greybull Greybull KOA. I don't know too much about Greybull. I did stop for fuel there and ran into an old time biker. He was a colorful old guy and a member of the American Patriot Guard.
Day 4: Greybull to Sturgis. Google map says it's about 1.5 hours over the Granite Pass into Ranchester Wyoming, but that pass is a long steady climb so I would add an hour onto that time. From Ranchester to Sturgis it's back onto the I-90 for about 3 hours, and then we are there!
Lamphere Ranch is where I stayed last year. I think everyone will be happy there. They have showers, a small beer garden and serve a simple breakfast for a reasonable price. I have already contacted them, about being grouped together. If you decide to go to Sturgis this year just use the phrase "Fraser Valley FOG's" in your e-mails. The same goes for the KOA's and the Grizzly RV site in West Yellowstone. As for what to do in Sturgis, it's up to you! I can only recommend that you stay for at least 4 days. Between the rides to Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazyhorse and Sturgis itself, you don't want to be rushed.
As for the return trip, that's up in the air. The return trip could be done in 2 long days if you come back on the I-90 but we can discuss all that later.
